Colts vs. Chiefs Recap

On Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts were humiliated by the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-13, in an absolute beatdown. The Chiefs advanced to the AFC Championship game for the first time since 1993, and will take on the New England Patriots in Arrowhead Stadium at 6:40 on Sunday.

From the very beginning, Kansas City dominated this game. They scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, and beat the Colts on all sides of the ball. The Colts were given a chance to make a comeback, but Adam Vinateri missed a field goal(in the snow!) before half-time, and the 17 point deficit was two much to overcome.

Much of this credit should go to Bob Sutton, the Chiefs defensive coordinator. The Chiefs were the leagues 31st best defense this season, which was worse than the Raiders. Sutton used creative blitzes to confuse and overpower the Colts strong offensive line. The Chiefs secondary also did a relatively good job of shutting out both T.Y. Hilton and Eric Ebron. They will need to replicate that against Julian Edelman and James White next week.

While the loss is disappointing for the Colts, they have a bright future. Andrew Luck is just 29, and appears to finally be healthy. The Colts still have one of the leagues most explosive offenses, and could also have up to 120 million dollars in cap space this offseason. That type of money could be thrown at disgruntled stars Le'veon Bell and/or Antonio Brown, both of whom would vastly improve this team, and make them a true contender. They also have an incredibly solid defense, and rookie Darius Leonard looks to be an all pro for years to come.
