This regular season, there were some great games, and there were some awful games. In particular, 2018 might have saw the landscape of the NFL change in one game. Today, we will be ranking the 10 best regular season games.
10. Week 14 - Miami Dolphins 34, New England Patriots 33
This game had Game of the Year potential if it had actually mattered. Even after the Dolphins miracle win, they still flunked and missed the playoffs. The Patriots over came the loss and still got the second seed. The stunning finish to the game carries it into the leaderboards.
9. Week 3 - Cleveland Browns 21, New York Jets 17
The Browns won a game! For the first time in nearly two calendar years, the Browns walked off the field victorious. Baker Mayfield entered the game at halftime, and showed the world that he was worth the number one overall pick. Bakermania had officially started. Also, Cleveland got free Bud Light.
8. Week 14 - Dallas Cowboys 29, Philadelphia Eagles 23
This game decided the division that nobody wants to win, the NFC East. Dallas proved that they were a legitimate team, and that the trade for Amari Cooper was worth it. Cooper went off for 10 catches, 217 yards, and three scores. The game ended on a dramatic catch on a tipped pass that Cooper caught and pranced into the end zone.
7. Week 8 - Los Angeles Rams 29, Green Bay Packers 27
The game that officially killed the Packers season. After the Rams scored with about two minutes left, the world new what was going to happen. Aaron Rodgers would march down the field, and the Packers would kick a field goal as time expired to hand the Rams their first loss of the season. Instead, Ty Montgomery fumbled the kickoff rather than doing what his coach said and taking a knee, and was traded to the Ravens two days later.
6. Week 14 - Kansas City Chiefs 27, Baltimore Ravens 24(OT)
The Chiefs faced a fourth and nine with almost no time left to go. A stop from the Ravens defense, and the Chargers would overtake the Chiefs in the AFC West. Patrick Mahomes took the snap, ran all around the field, then closed his eyes and heaved a prayer down field. Tyreek Hill caught it. Then, Harrison Butker missed the game winning field goal after Lamar Jackson fumbled the game away. The Chiefs got a field goal after winning the OT toss and stopped the Ravens to win.
5. Week 4 - Houston Texans 37, Indianapolis Colts 34(OT)
This game was extremely tight the entire way. Andrew Luck and Deshaun Watson went blow for blow for five quarters. The Colts faced a fourth and four from their own 43 with 27 seconds left in overtime. Rather than punting, which would have resulted in a tie, the Colts went for it, and missed. The Texans then kicked the game winning field goal. Looking back on that game, had the Colts punted, they would have been the 3rd seed while Houston would have been 6th.
4. Week 1 - Green Bay Packers 24, Chicago Bears 23
The game that made Jon Gruden the worst coach in NFL History. For the first three quarters, Khalil Mack was running around the field like a man possessed. He had racked up a forced fumble, a pick six, and a few sacks. Chicago had a 20-0 lead. Then, Aaron Rodgers came back after a knee injury and single-handedly defeated the Bears.
3. Week 9 - New Orleans Saints 45, Los Angeles Rams 35
Despite the score, this game was incredibly close. Drew Brees and Jared Goff were trading scores throughout, and Michael Thomas looked like the best receiver in football. Brees sealed it with a strike to Thomas, who then did a Joe Horn impersonation by getting a phone under the goalposts. Also, this was the Rams first loss of the season.
2. Week 6 - New England Patriots 43, Kansas City Chiefs 40
This was supposed to be the changing of the guard. The dynasty of the Patriots would be handed down into Patrick Mahomes' electrifying offense. Instead, New England looked to be in control the entire first half. Then, Mahomes and Tyreek Hill ran all through the Patriots secondary and tied the game at 40. Tom Brady then hit Rob Gronkowski up the seam to set up Stephen Gostowski's game winning field goal.
1. Week 11 - Los Angeles Rams 54, Kansas City Chiefs 51
105 Points. Without overtime. This game marked the first time in history where two teams both had 50 points. Despite the high score, defense was a huge factor. There were 8 sacks in total, along with 7 takeaways and 3 defensive touchdowns. Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes just exposed each teams awful secondary. In the end, the Chiefs made two costly turnovers to give the Rams the win.
