Top 5 Most Improved Teams This Summer Off-Season

Nakul Joshi

The excitement in the soccer world is greater than ever as more talented players transfer to new teams everyday, and with all these transitions and changes in the lineups of teams, the growth of each squad can be observed. Here are the 5 teams that have improved the most during the past few months:

5. Inter Milan

Inter Milan has certainly come a long way from last season, and they continue to grow during the summer off-season especially thanks to their new manager Antonio Conte. With his coaching experiences at Chelsea FC, Conte’s wisdom and knowledge of the game has helped Milan reform their squad. Particularly, the midfield was proven to be the weak-link of the team in the past. Conte’s decision to bring in midfielders Nicolo Barella and Stefano Sensi has made this weakness into a strength that has further bolstered Milan’s growth. Additionally, the moves of defenders Valentino Lazaro and Diego Godin are anticipated to make the team even stronger. Inter Milan is also competing for forward Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to their team. With new players and fresh faces all over the field, Milan is bound to get even stronger in the time to come.

4. FC Barcelona

With their Champions League semi-final upset, Barcelona needed to get stronger in order to keep up with the other teams’ growth. Being a strong team from the start, Barcelona has managed to bounce back stronger than ever. Barca’s offensive line had always been their strong point. Powerhouses such as Ousmane Dembele, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have made Barcelona’s offense formidable. Although it is unclear how Antoine Griezmann will fit into this line up, he is sure to boost the forward line up to be even stronger. After the swift one-after-another retirements of Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, Frenkie de Jong makes for a perfect replacement to control the midfield and support the offensive line as Sergio Busquets announces plans to end his career at Barca. The Spanish Powerhouse might also welcome Neymar Jr back into the team in which case the team will further grow stronger.

3. Aston Villa

Aston’s Villa’s spendings have exceeded 100 million pounds as they roll out the red carpet for a variety of players. Some of the players transferring to Aston Villa include forwards Wesley and Anwar El Ghazi, defenders Tyrone Mings, Matt Targett, Ezri Konsa, Bjorn Engles, and Kourtney Hause as well as midfielders Douglas Luiz, Mahmoud Hassan and Jota. Having replaced a lot of their older players with new, young, and more adept ones, it is as if Aston Villa is becoming another team altogether. Nonetheless, a new age is being ushered in at the Premier League team as a huge growth in the club is anticipated.

2. Juventus

Although Juventus did not have a huge budget in transfer overhaul for the summer window, their cautious purchases have maximized the development of the team while minimizing the amount of money spent on those players. Matthijs de Ligt is no doubt at the center of new players coming to Juventus enhancing Juventus’s defense to new limits. Moreover, the midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey are also expected to strengthen the Italian team’s midfield, and the transfer of keeper Gianlugi Buffon is sure to help the defensive line. Having purchased all these permanent assets, Juventus also turned their sights to future investments that could earn them money in the future through loans and other means. Such players include the likes of Luca Pellegrini, Merih Demiral, and Luca Pellegrini. With some clever purchases and vested interests, Juventus has grown stronger due to their smart expenditure.

1. Real Madrid

Madrid has certainly strengthened the most out of any team in the world as of right now. After having had one of their worst seasons, their new manager Zinedine Zidane has reformed the squad through a spending spree of risky and costly transfers. Eden Hazard’s transfer to Bernabeu is sure to shore up Madrid’s weak offense and can even be called the biggest move that has happened during this summer transfer window. Furthermore, forwards Luka Jovic and Rodrygo as well as defenders Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy are likely to help solve Madrid’s striker crisis and aid other departments where Madrid lacks talent. Nevertheless, Madrid’s recent defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid goes to show that the new players have not yet fit into the Madrid team and formation. However this can easily be solved by Zidane, and, with a little adjustment of the lineup and development of team-work, Madrid has the potential to rise higher and stronger than ever.
