The thrilling title race between Liverpool and Manchester City is over as City manages to win consecutive Premier League titles, the likes of which hasn’t been achieved by any Premier League team in the past decade. The last match day of the English league was full of eventful games. While all of Liverpool’s hopes lied on their victory and City’s unlucky loss, the Sky Blues went onto the field determined and ready, knowing that this win would get them the league title. Liverpool was easily able to win their game against the Wolves maintaining a clean sheet as Sadio Mane scored a brace. Nonetheless, their efforts during this game as well as their winning streak in their past games were in vain.
During the start of Manchester City’s game against Brighton, the atmosphere surrounding Amex stadium was filled with intensity. Liverpool could only pray for City’s defeat after their satisfying win. However, Manchester City players were not going to sit idly by and decided to work for their second title in a row. This tension filled the air of Brighton’s home stadium for the first 27 minutes of the first half and was further intensified due to Brighton’s goal. Nevertheless, City’s determination struck back as forward Sergio Aguero equalized the score just a minute later. To follow, defender Aymeric Laporte managed to net another goal giving City a lead in the second half. Moreover, to fans’ surprise, forward Riyad Mahrez, who had not played since Manchester City’s Quarterfinal loss to Tottenham, also scored a goal, and İlkay Gündoğan topped off their massive victory.
This comeback allowed them to win the league at 98 points beating Liverpool who were merely a point short of the same score. Manchester City players celebrated their win, which marked the first consecutive wins in ten years, as Liverpool, disappointed with the results, came in close second.
