Alexis Sánchez transferred from Arsenal to Manchester United before the 17/18 season began. Due to his outstanding performance with Arsenal, the forward gained a reputation that made him stand out from others in Arsenal as well as the Premier League. Manchester United recognized this talent and Sánchez was relocated to play with the Red Devils in January of 2017. However, the unexpected happened as the quality of his performance diminished soon after he joined Manchester United yet he gained the spot as top-earner by being paid around half a million pounds each week. Sánchez was unable to show the form that gained him a spot as one of the Red Devil's prestigious players which aggravated José Mourinho, the Manchester United manager. He is also said to have been questioning the manager's tactics which further provoked Mourinho to take action.

As a result of this, the 29-year-old Chilean gained the dissent of Mourinho to play against West-Ham in September. The game ended up a shocking 3-1 defeat for the Reds as Sánchez deplored Mourinho’s decision. But, was Sánchez really the problem? He is not the only one that disputed Mourinho’s strategies. When it comes to questioning Mourinho, Sánchez is joined by the likes of Paul Pogba, the center midfielder fr the Red Devils. As a consequence, Alexis Sánchez is said to have issued an ultimatum to José Mourinho. The former Barcelona and Arsenal star hopes to achieve more play time by the manager or to be allowed to leave the Red Devils in the next transfer window which is around January. Alexis Sánchez has scored an astonishing 4 goals in over 30 appearances which just goes to show the deterioration in his performance. Although, he is bound to Manchester United by contract until the 2021/22 season, the 29-year-old footballer wishes to regain the level of mastery on soccer that he once had with Arsenal, whether it is with the Red Devils or not.
