Nakul Joshi

The new year marks the middle of the league seasons in Europe. With all the intense competition and exciting games that took place in the first half of the seasons, one can only imagine what is to come next. The ensuing teams, with their outstanding performances, may go on to win their respective league and enlighten and entertain the masses with their outstanding performances on the soccer field. The teams predicted to win their corresponding leagues are as follows.

Premier League:

Liverpool: Liverpool took over as #1 in the Premier League since Manchester City suffered consecutive losses at the hand of other EPL teams. Having lost only once to the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool has been outshining all of its competition with talented players such as Salah, Mané, Virgil van Dijk and many others.

Potential Comeback:

Manchester City: Manchester City pose a big threat to Liverpool and their chances of winning this season of the Premier League. The Manchester City squad is filled with capable players as Aguero and Sané, the likes of who may be able to overtake Liverpool and take back the title of #1 in the Premier League

Next season comeback:

Manchester United: The Red Devils started off the season with some inconsistent games. However, Manchester United has not lost a single game coached by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The capable coach may lead the adept players of the red devil squad to take next season by storm. Nonetheless, the title of #1 seems out of reach for Manchester City this season.

Serie A:

Juventus: Juventus has been on the top of the Serie A standings since the beginning of the season. The addition of Ronaldo to the squad has fortified their offense. Defenders such as Alex Sandro are key to all of Juventus’s clean sheets and the reason why Juventus stands undefeated. With 17 wins and 2 draws, it is safe to say that the Juventus squad is getting comfortable in their seat at the top of the Serie A league. They have further proven that they are unstoppable by winning the Supercoppa recently.

Potential Comeback:

Napoli: While lagging behind by 9 points, Napoli has managed to stay at pace with Juventus. The Italian team has managed to prove themselves countless times like winning against Liverpool and playing PSG twice, both of which games ended as a draw, and may do so against Juventus this time.

Next Season Comeback:

Napoli

La Liga:

FC Barcelona: FC Barcelona has ripped through some crucial competition. Although they are not undefeated, the skilled players of Barcelona including Suarez and 5 time Ballon d’Or winner Messi can challenge and successfully beat anyone they face. With their major rival team, Real Madrid, devoid of its former star player Cristiano Ronaldo, there seems to be almost no one able to stand up to Barça.

Potential Comeback:

Atletico Madrid: Having played Barça twice, both of which games ended as a tie, Atletico Madrid is one of few teams that can stand up to the likes of FC Barcelona. With talented players like Griezmann and Costa, Atletico may be able to outdo Barcelona.

Next season Comeback:

Real Madrid: After having lost their star player and 5 time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid had a bit of a shaky start to this season of La Liga. However, after overcoming their dependence on the Portuguese international, as well as becoming integrated with manager Santiago Solari's tactics, Real Madrid seems to be having more consistent and better performances.

Ligue 1:

Paris Saint-Germain: PSG has been dominating Ligue 1 as #1 in their league. Although they suffered two consecutive draws in the past 6 games, PSG is 13 points ahead of Lille, who stands at the second place in the league. With adept players like Neymar Jr and young star Mbappe amidst their squad, the French team never fails to amuse the masses while always remaining victorious.

Potential Comeback:

St-Etienne: St-Etienne is one of the top performers at Ligue 1. Their talented players can hold their own and can rack up wins while creating momentum. However, catching up to PSG this season seems unlikely due to the huge difference in points they established throughout the season

Next season Comeback:

Lille: If any other team can rise to the occasion and surpass PSG, it would be Lille. However they are often set back by defeat due to careless mistakes. As a result they lack much force to start a winning streaks.

Bundesliga:

Borussia Dortmund: Dortmund has been one of the top contenders in the Bundesliga for many seasons now. With talented players such as Mario Götze, and the head of Dortmund’s offense, Marco Reus, Dortmund can stand up to anyone. Having beat some strong teams in the Europa league like Liverpool and Manchester City, Dortmund will likely finish the season as #1

Potential Comeback:

Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich is a tough adversary for Dortmund who have beat them countless times in the past. Having lost only twice more than Borussia Dortmund and being tied the same amout, they rival the likes of many tough European teams such as PSG.

Next season Comeback:

M'gladbach: Mochenglandbach is currently in third place in the Bundesliga Standings. Having lost only once more that Bayern Munich, as well as having the same amount of ties proves that they may be able to surpass Bayern as well as possibly Dortmund. Thorgen Hazard, the brother of Chelsea star Eden Hazard, is a driving force in their offense and may play an important role in their performance this season as well as ones that will come after.

Champions' League:

FC Barcelona: Being undefeated in their own group, Barcelona have ripped through tough and weak competition alike. With a strong offense consisting of five time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, Suarez, and Dembele, as well as a capable midfield with Rakitic and Coutinho, and a resiliant defense consisting of Gerard Pique, Semedo, Umtiti and others, this team’s allround structure helps it hack through crucial competition. However, with being at the top of LaLiga and one of the best in the Champion’s League, a lot of pressure is put on this squad to perform well. This may affect the team drastically in the future

Potential Comeback:

Juventus: Juventus have not started off the Champion’s League strong due to suffering 2 losses already. However, being at the top of their group, they have a potential to beat Barcelona and other teams. Nonetheless, Juventus is facing Atletico Madrid, a tough opponent, in the round of 16. It can be assumed that the Italian club will be facing even better opponents in the future if they manage to make it past Atletico. However, with the addition of Ronaldo to their Champion’s League squad, Juventus may be able to cross the hurdle that is the Champion’s League title
