The English city of Manchester has had its ups and downs, ranging from the EPL title in the 2017-18 season, to the poor performance of United just 3 miles across town. At the center of their troubles has been the controversial José Mourinho who has to lead them to their worst EPL start in 60 years, but at other times, has led them to defeat some of the best clubs in the world.

However, it has been confirmed that the United ruling board has determined that his mistakes outweigh his triumphs and after two and a half years, Manchester United have sacked Mourinho. The team has only one win since November 3rd, and although views are split on the Red Devil’s decision, most believe that this is the right thing to do.

Mourinho was informed of the board's decision around 9:30 a.m. and his departure was filled with goodbyes to both staff members and a few players, who visited him in his office.

Sources report that the board was compelled to make this division after Manchester’s loss to their rival, Liverpool, which resulted in their 6th place standings (19 points behind Liverpool). Despite their heartfelt farewell which included the board stating, “ The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future,” the club is already looking at potential candidates.

As an interim manager former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the most likely, but as for permanent coaches, both unattached Zinedine Zidane and also Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino are very likely to get the job.

For the time being, assistant Michael Carrick and academy chief Nicky Butt will most likely take the interim position, but it is uncertain whether they will be present in United’s next game against Cardiff.

All in all, these recent events might be long overdue. Despite his failures on the sidelines, Mourinho has made countless mistakes publicly. He has displayed himself as rash and irrational and has had problems with players including French World Cup winner Paul Pogba who was stripped of his vice-captaincy and has sat out Manchester United’s last four games.

Despite the goods and the bad's of the situation, there is no doubting that Mourinho was experienced, and that is exactly what United needs in their underdog Champions League fixture against PSG in the Round of 16, and their future may be determined on their ability to hire a capable manager.
