We are one-fourth of the way through the EPL season, and Manchester fans always know . what to expect from both City and United. But they don't, at least not this year. But this is only half true.
Manchester City, the Premier League title holders, were off to a bit of a shaky start at the beginning of the season but have hauled themselves in. They now sit at the top of the league with a record of nine wins, no losses, and two draws.
Manchester's last Premier League game was against Southampton in which the team displayed its brilliant ability in a 6-1 win. Among their goal scorers was Raheem Sterling with two, as well as Sergio Agüero and young star Leroy Sané who each had 1.
Looking aside from this top-class performance, City's overall performance in all competitions has been nothing short of expectations. They have been aggressive and fast- paced with Leroy Sane, Phil Foden, and Kevin De Bruyne being among those creating chances, and players like Agüero and Sterling finishing. Their performance in the Champions League has also been dominant, withThe Citizens being at the top of their group.
On the other side of town, the Mourinho led Manchester United has had better days. The Red Devils placed 2nd in the premier league last year, but the point difference between them and their City counterparts was a bit high at a 19 point difference. However, despite second place last year, their performance this year does not reflect their skill as a team.
There have been a wide range of things that can be attributed to the teams poor performance including bad relations between manager and player, as well as lack of individual self confidence
As we all know, Mourinho and Pogba had a fall-out and afterwards Pogba was stripped of his vice-captaincy. However, both player and manager have repeatedly insisted that all was fine, and there have been no further incidents of the sort.
Meanwhile, striker Romelu Lukaku has repeatedly screwed up in consecutive games, and Mourinho has had no choice but to bench the 25 year old Belgium international while he regained his self-confidence. The striker did miss Manchester United's Champions League game against Juventus, but the Red Devils came through, and overcame a mountain in a series of late goals coming from Juan Mata, and an own goal from Alex Sandro that turned a Juventus lead into a Manchester win. The Devils now sit in second place in Group H with 7 points.
With Manchester Derby day only 4 days away, United, the underdogs are going to need a combination of luck and skill to take the Manchester crown. Meanwhile, if City continue to play well, the odds look to be in their favor for their upcoming matchup.
