The Sky Blues draw closer to #1

This Premier League season was one with many ups and downs. At the start of the 18-19 season, Manchester City took the lead, with stars, such as Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, and Fernando Luiz Rosa at the center of their victories. The English soccer team went undefeated for almost half the season until they suffered defeat to Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and finally, Leicester City. Meanwhile, Liverpool took advantage of the situation and climb the ranks while maintaining their undefeated status. Soon enough, a gap of 7 points grew between the top two teams. However, as the new year began, Manchester City was given the opportunity to face-off against the team that claimed its throne. If Manchester City won this crucial game, the rift formed between the two teams would start to seal. However, if Liverpool won, they would gain a 10-point-lead of #2 in the Premier League.

On January 3, the critical match began. During the 17th minute, when no goals were scored yet, the ball came 11 millimeters close to Manchester City’s goal line. However, due to an astonishing save by John Stones, as well as reassurance from goal-line-technology, the Reds did not gain a point. Just minutes before the first half ended, Agüero scored a goal from inside the penalty box. In the 64th minute, Liverpool launched an attack on Manchester city’s goal. Alexander Arnolds crossed the ball to the center of the goal as Firmino dove and headed the ball into the goal to equalize the score. It seemed as if this game would end as a draw, however, this did not last very long. At the 72nd minute, Leroy Sane shot the ball using his left foot into the bottom-right corner of the goal.

The game ended as a win for Manchester City as they drew closer to Liverpool and the number one spot on the Premier League standings. For the Reds, 11 millimeters was the difference between a draw and a loss.
